The decision to board your dog in a standard kennel or in our cage-free environment is based on the level of physical and emotional comfort you want for your dog. Years ago standard boarding kennels with rows of dog runs were the only option. Times have changed and cage-free boarding is a welcome alternative for conscientious dog owners. Many of our first-time clients have told us that they have finally found a place where they can board their dog and actually feel good about it. Some of our clients board their dogs on a regular basis just so their dogs can enjoy a fun weekend!
Cage-free playtime is now being offered at some kennels. Important questions to ask: Is playtime unlimited or is it just a few minutes per day? Is playtime included with the basic boarding rate or is it an extra expense? Will my dog be playing on soft grass and/or snow or on hard concrete floors or gravel? Will my dog be isolated in a room or locked in a cage when not involved in playtime? Will my dog be monitored after 6pm and all through the night by a live human being? What is your procedure to comfort my dog if she becomes afraid during the night?
Your dog is a member of your family, a loyal companion who gives constant unconditional love to you. You spoil and pamper him, provide fluffy beds, fun toys and spend endless hours petting and playing with him. He even sleeps in your bed. When it comes to boarding your dog, you want to choose a boarding facility that will, not only provide that same level of comfort and nurturing, but also offer stimulating activities that will meet your dog's energy level and need for play. Cage-free home-style boarding at Stone Meadow Farm offers many benefits that are simply not obtainable at a standard kennel.
Endless hours of boredom in a chain-link and concrete dog run at a standard boarding kennel.
When you board your dog at a standard kennel he goes directly into a numbered dog run or cage upon arrival much like the one at left. Most standard indoor runs average 4ft x 6ft. The outdoor portion of the run may be 16ft for large dogs. All feeding, sleeping, playing and sometimes elimination, are done within the constrictive run. Your dog may be one of 50 to 100 or more dogs housed in one building. Small dogs may be kept in the kennel office area in cages measuring 24"w x 36"d x 26"h for the entire boarding period. Would your dog be happy hour after hour, day after day in this type of conventional boarding kennel?

Snoozing with friends. (Blue-Emmy-Chica-Sam)
Rows of dog runs do not exist at Stone Meadow Farm. There is no constant barking. We are already home so our canine boarders aren't left alone at 5pm. Our boarders enjoy our companionship and nurturing throughout the evening and all through the night. All of our canine guests enjoy a tremendous amount of freedom and pampering. Since we accept only a very limited number of boarders at one time instead of warehousing a large number of dogs, we are better able to focus our attention on the individual needs of each dog. We truly get attached to each and every dog that stays with us. As long time dog owners ourselves, we understand your desire to provide a comfortable and safe place for your dog while you are away. You want so much more for your dog than a 4x6 cage in a warehouse. You want your dog to stay where it is more like home and that is what we are all about.....the next best thing to home.

When you board your dog at Stone Meadow Farm he meets his new playmates right after he has had a few minutes to "sniff" around. Your dog will never go into a dog run. He can play to his heart's content. He can take a long nap. He can chew on a juicy Nylabone or he can work at getting treats out of a Kong. He can chase balls or catch frisbees until our arms wear out! He will not be bored or lonely. We are a small facility which enables us to get to personally know each and every one of our boarders. We do this by spending all day with them every day. They aren't just "run or suite numbers" to us. You can call us any time of the day and ask us detailed questions about your dog and we will be happy to tell you about his day.
